Therapy
Meadowlark Psychology provides individual therapy for adolescents and young adults aged 12–25.
Therapy focuses on helping young people understand patterns in their thinking, emotions, and behaviour, and to develop practical strategies that support functioning at school, university, work, and in relationships. The work is collaborative, structured, and responsive to developmental stage and individual needs.
-
Therapy may be appropriate for young people experiencing:
Anxiety (including school-related anxiety)
Low mood or depression
Emotional dysregulation
Perfectionism and high self-criticism
School disengagement or school refusal
Stress and burnout
Adjustment to life transitions
Emerging attentional difficulties
Relationship difficulties
The young person is the primary client in therapy.
-
Therapy is person-centred and integrates established psychological approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Motivational Interviewing (MI).
The therapeutic process is structured and goal-oriented while remaining responsive to the client’s developmental stage and individual needs.
-
For clients under 18, parent consultation sessions may be incorporated when clinically appropriate. These sessions support the young person’s treatment goals — for example, strengthening communication, supporting skill generalisation at home, or addressing relevant environmental factors.
Parent sessions are not provided as separate therapy for parents. The adolescent remains the identified client.
Where the young person has a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP), two parent consultation sessions that form part of the adolescent’s treatment may be billed under Medicare. These count toward the same annual session allocation (up to 10 sessions per calendar year). The standard session fee applies.
For clients aged 18 and over, therapy is conducted independently unless the client requests family involvement.
-
Appointments are 50 minutes in duration and are typically scheduled weekly or fortnightly. Sessions may be conducted in person or via telehealth.
Session fee: $270 per 50-minute appointment
Clients with a valid Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) from a GP, Psychiatrist, or Paediatrician may be eligible for Medicare rebates (up to 10 sessions per calendar year). Full fees are payable at the time of session, with rebates processed following payment.
For detailed information regarding fees, Medicare rebates, and cancellation policy, please refer to the Fees page.
