About Meadowlark Psychology

Meadowlark Psychology was founded on the belief that young people deserve to be taken seriously, listened to carefully, and supported in ways that respect their individuality and identity.

Nathan McNamara is an Educational and Developmental Psychologist (Registrar) and an APS Board-approved Supervisor. He is currently Head of Psychological Services at Ruyton Girls’ School. Prior to this role, Nathan worked for four years as a school psychologist at St Michael’s Grammar School.

Across these roles, he has developed extensive experience supporting adolescents and young people through the social, academic and developmental challenges they face during secondary school and the transition to early adulthood.

Nathan works collaboratively with clients to understand the patterns shaping their thoughts, emotions, and behaviour within the broader developmental challenges that commonly arise during adolescence and early adulthood. Therapy focuses on developing practical ways of responding to these challenges while helping young people move toward goals and values that are important to them.

Nathan supports young people experiencing difficulties related to mood, self-esteem and identity, family relationships, and school avoidance or reluctance. For clients currently in school, his background in the education sector enables him to work constructively with families and schools while keeping the young person’s voice and needs central to care.

Nathan works from a neuroaffirming and inclusive framework and aims to provide a supportive and respectful space for neurodivergent young people, LGBTQIA+ clients, and individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. Care is guided by curiosity, respect, and a commitment to understanding each client’s individual context.

Outside of his professional work, Nathan enjoys spending as much time with his dog, Daisy, as possible. Additionally, he enjoys reading, playing guitar, photography cooking and baking, weightlifting and futsal (indoor soccer). He is also preparing for an exciting new chapter as a father-to-be, with his first child due in late April.

Meadowlark Psychology is Nathan’s private practice; a space where young people can develop greater self-understanding, confidence, and clarity about what matters to them, and build the confidence to navigate life’s challenges while remaining true to themselves.
